Our Services

Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, joint pain in the arms or legs, and headaches. Chiropractic care is a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care, which includes patient examination, diagnosis, and treatment.

Chiropractic care is beneficial for patients of all ages with a variety of health conditions. DCs are especially well-known for their expertise in caring for patients with back pain, neck pain, and headaches, particularly with their highly skilled manipulations or chiropractic adjustments. They also care for patients with a wide range of injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system involving the muscles, ligaments, and joints. These painful conditions often involve or impact the nervous system, which can cause referred pain and dysfunction distant to the region of injury. The benefits of chiropractic care extend to general health issues as well, since our body structure affects our overall function.

A big misconception is that once you receive chiropractic treatment, you must continue indefinitely. Chiropractic treatment is like anything else, which regular treatment isn’t required but extremely beneficial! Chiropractic treatment is caring for your spine. You use your spine 24 hours per day if you’re working, walking, playing, and even sleeping.Gravity is working on it one way or the other, and therefore, it is something that should be cared for.

Massage Therapy

A Powerful Ally

There's no denying the power of massage. Regardless of the adjectives we assign to it (pampering, rejuvenating, therapeutic) or the reasons we seek it out (a luxurious treat, stress relief, pain management), massage therapy can be a powerful ally in your health care regimen and provides relief to people from all walks of life–the weekend athlete or competitive athlete, the home gardener, and the overstressed executive. Secretaries, laborers, waitresses, the older population, and the bedridden–anyone can benefit from a massage!

And here’s the beauty of massage: Its benefits are compounded when massage is utilized as a frequent therapy. The more you get, the more it does. Taking part in this form of regularly scheduled self-care can play a huge part in how healthy you’ll be and how youthful you will remain with each passing year. Budgeting time and money for a massage at consistent intervals is truly an investment in your health. And remember, just because massage feels like a pampering treat doesn’t mean it is any less therapeutic.

The Benefits of Massage

Just to List a Few

  • Alleviate low-back pain and improve range of motion
  • Assist with shorter, easier labor for expectant mothers
  • Ease medication dependence
  • Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow, the body's natural defense system
  • Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles
  • Help athletes of any level prepare for and recover from strenuous workouts
  • Improve the condition of the body's largest organ, the skin
  • Increase joint flexibility
  • Lessen depression and anxiety
  • Promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks
  • Pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation
  • Reduce post-surgery adhesions and swelling
  • Reduce spasms and cramping
  • Relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles
  • Release endorphins–amino acids that work as the body's natural painkiller
  • Relieve migraine pain

Are You Stressed Out?

Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of disease is stress related. And perhaps nothing ages us faster, internally and externally, than high stress. While eliminating anxiety and pressure altogether in this fast-paced world may be idealistic, massage can, without a doubt, help manage stress. This translates to:

  • Decreased anxiety
  • Enhanced sleep quality
  • Improved concentration
  • Greater energy
  • Reduced fatigue

The Stress Response

Under stress, your body really has just one response: it mobilizes to fight or flee. Your nervous system becomes highly activated, and hormones such as adrenaline prepare your body to respond to an emergency. Muscles tense for action, heart rate and blood pressure increase, breathing becomes rapid and shallow, and digestion and other maintenance functions are put on hold.

Untreated Stress Can Result in Serious Health Conditions Including:

  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Muscle pain
  • High blood pressure
  • Weakened immune system
  • Obesity
  • Heart disease
  • Depression

Physical Therapy

As part of your treatment at Advanced Sport & Injury Clinic, our recommendations will include several forms of physical therapy to help you get back to where you belong. Physical therapy can be beneficial with any of the following:

  • Managing/reducing pain
  • Restoring motion and mobility
  • Decreasing swelling and inflammation
  • Gaining strength and stability
  • Resuming normal activities
  • Posture and body mechanics
  • Preventing re-injury

Therapeutic exercises and stretches are essential for long-term results with your treatment. The doctors at Advanced Sport & Injury Clinic utilize the latest techniques for these exercises in accordance with the most recent research. Our physical therapy team establishes a three-phase exercise program, including stretching, strengthening, and muscle coordination, that will help prevent injury and pain aggravation in the future. Rehabilitative training can be beneficial with any of the following:

  • Orthopedic/sports injuries
  • Pre- and postsurgical rehabilitation
  • Core strengthening
  • Rehabilitative strength training
  • Spinal stabilization
  • Balance/proprioceptive training
  • Extremity conditioning

Advanced Sport & Injury Clinic incorporates a variety of tools to make it the premier physical medicine center in the area. Utilizing these techniques with chiropractic manipulation and acupuncture ensure a complete healing. Our dedication to your improvement through clinical treatment, current research, and complementary medicine with other medical professionals is the difference in your healing.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is another method of treatment to take advantage of right here within the clinic. This is one of the world’s oldest treatments which can be successful on its own or can be utilized as an adjunct to chiropractic treatment. Acupuncture is used to treat a wide assortment of musculoskeletal conditions. You will be surprised at the benefits that acupuncture can bring you if you ask! Dr. Jodoin studied under the noted Dr. Richard Yennie at the Acupuncture Society of America, completing the certification course in 2009.

Spinal Decompression

Introducing VAX-D: The Nonsurgical Solution to Low Back Pain

VAX-D Defined:

VAX-D (Vertebral Axial Decompression Therapy)

Simply put, it’s a nonsurgical procedure that decompresses (takes pressure off) the discs and nerves in your lower back.

VAX-D is an active treatment modality that has been proven through clinical studies to be safe, effective, and economical. VAX-D technology is scientifically engineered for high-tech performances and easy operation.

Built-in safety features, precision controls, and monitoring devices enable therapists to apply optimal levels of tension along the linear axis of the vertebral column. This distracts the lumbar vertebrae and decompresses the intervertebral discs and facets, resulting in remarkable relief for many patients.

Why Is VAX-D So Effective?

VAX-D treats the underlying causes of low back pain and not just the symptoms. Low back pain is usually caused by herniated discs that are putting pressure on the spinal nerves. Patients are treated on the VAX-D therapeutic table, which is programmed to slowly separate, gently stretching the lumbar spine. This stretching creates a negative pressure within the disc and allows the herniation to retract, thus relieving the pressure on the nerves and the pain. There are no complications associated with the treatment.

VAX-D Treatment Is Recommended for the Following Symptoms/Diagnosis:

  • Herniated disc
  • Sciatica
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Lower back pain
  • Advised to have surgery

Infrared Sauna

Today’s Fountain of Youth

  • Detox
  • Relax
  • Promote weight loss
  • Cellulite reduction
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improve circulation
  • Cell health
  • Improve skin tone
  • Muscle recovery
  • Relieve pain

Pain Relief

One of the greatest benefits of an infrared sauna is the natural pain relief it provides!

Infrared sauna users love to tell us about the pain relief properties of their sauna sessions. You too can toss the pain pills, and step into a healing infrared sanctuary to relieve tension and relax muscles. Infrared sauna heat works by penetrating joints, muscles, and tissues, increasing circulation and speeding oxygen flow. By reducing soreness on nerve endings, our infrared heat reduces muscle spasms and helps the body heal itself naturally.

Sweat the Pounds Away!

Studies have shown that a 30-minute far infrared sauna session can burn up to 200-600 calories. As the body works to cool itself while using an infrared sauna, there is a substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output, and metabolic rate. Blood flow during whole body hyperthermia is reported to rise from a normal 5-7 quarts per minute to as much as 13 quarts per minute. Additionally:

  1. It effectively reduces heavy metals which have been directly related to metabolic imbalances in the body, causing poor digestion and weight gain.
  2. It decreases fat-stored (lipophilic) toxins. Often, weight loss cannot be accomplished unless these toxins are first removed.
  3. Although weight loss due to perspiration (water loss) is quickly regained, sending more blood to the capillaries and converting fats and carbohydrates results in as much as 600 calories burned during one short sauna session.

We Need to Detoxify!

But what is the best way to detoxify? There are several methods being used today: chelation, where enzyme preparations are injected into the bloodstream, binding toxins as they pass through and are excreted; fasting, with or without herbal and mineral preparations and/or colonics to help remove toxins; and saunas, removing toxins through sweating. Whereas the first two methods are suitable for persons with a high degree of dedication and/or discipline, the sauna method is one that can be used easily and effectively by almost everyone. Saunas get your heart beating and your blood circulating, helping the body to detoxify in unique and important ways.

Sweating is the body’s safe and natural way to heal, stay healthy, and detox! Sweat carries toxins out of the body and pushes it through the pores. Detox from an infrared sauna is 7 to 10 times greater than a conventional sauna. The average person sweats out 20% toxins and 80% water! In a conventional sauna, the average person sweats out 3% toxins and 97% water.

Symptoms We Treat

Back Pain

The low back is referred to as the lumbar spine. The upper back is referred to as the thoracic spine. The thoracic spine does not typically cause symptoms because the rib cage stabilizes the thoracic spine, causing fewer problems with wear and tear over the years. The lumbar spine is much more mobile and wears out much faster and more commonly.

Many conditions in the lumbar spine can contribute to back pain: degenerative disc disease, annular tears, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, facet arthritis, spondylolisthesis, and scoliosis, to name a few. When the nerves get pinched by bulging discs or bone spurs, you may experience pain in the legs, numbness, tingling, or weakness. The first step in your treatment is diagnosing the underlying source of your symptoms. This is often done with X-rays and MRI.

Chronic or intermittent back pain can be draining and make your life miserable. Our chiropractors can help relieve your pain, whether it is caused by a misalignment of the spine or a result of an injury. From low back to radiating pain along your entire spine, we will find a treatment that works for you.

Neck Conditions

The neck is located between the head and the shoulders. Because of its location and range-of-motion, it is often left unprotected and subject to injury.

What Causes Neck Pain?

Neck pain can result from many different causes, including injury, age-related disorders, and inflammatory disease.

Causes of Neck Pain and Problems May Include the Following:

  • Injury (damage to the muscles, tendons, and/or ligaments)
  • Herniated cervical disk
  • Arthritis (for example, osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis)
  • Cervical disk degeneration

Whiplash is another cause of neck pain. It often occurs as a result of a car accident, but what many people do not know is that it can also be caused by countless other situations, as mild as they may seem when they happen. Whiplash can even be caused by an inadequate sleeping position. Many people dismiss the pain thinking that the soreness will go away on its own, which only makes the injury worse. Our Dallas-Fort Worth chiropractors will be able to determine whether treatment for whiplash is needed.

Headaches and Migraines

If you have a headache, you’re not alone. Nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches. Some are occasional, some frequent, some are dull and throbbing, and some cause debilitating pain and nausea.

What do you do when you suffer from a pounding headache? Do you grit your teeth and carry on? Lie down? Pop a pill and hope the pain goes away? There is a better alternative.

Research shows that spinal manipulation–the primary form of care provided by doctors of chiropractic–may be an effective treatment option for tension headaches and headaches that originate in the neck.

A report released in 2001 by researchers at the Duke University Evidence-Based Practice Center in Durham, NC found that spinal manipulation resulted in almost immediate improvement for those headaches that originate in the neck and offered significantly fewer side effects and longer-lasting relief of a tension-type headache than a commonly prescribed medication.

Also, a 1995 study in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that spinal manipulative therapy is an effective treatment for tension headaches and that those who ceased chiropractic treatment after four weeks experienced a sustained therapeutic benefit in contrast with those patients who received a commonly prescribed medication.

Arthritic Pain

If you are living with chronic arthritic pain, you may have been told that your only option for relief is to manage your pain by taking painkillers as needed. You may be surprised to learn that a skilled chiropractor can treat these symptoms, and in many cases, bring you blessed relief from arthritic pain without prescribing costly medication.

Joint Pain

Chiropractic care is generally associated with spinal joints. But chiropractic treatment is effective for other joint conditions as well.

Joints are where one bone connects with another. They are the space between that allows proper movement and function. Our body has many different types of joints, from those that barely move at all (like the sutures in your skull) to synovial joints that move in many different directions. Your synovial joints would be shoulder joints, ankle joints, hip joints, spinal facet joints, wrist joints, and knee joints. We know that when the joints move properly, your muscles and ligaments function at an optimal level. This affords you proper function and no pain. However, when joints do not work properly, this leads to a whole host of problems. Primarily, when the joints do not work properly, the muscles and ligaments cannot function properly either. They will tend to either shorten or elongate, depending on the joint problem. When this occurs, they leak toxins that irritate local tissues and nerves. This leads to further pain and dysfunction that compounds until the underlying issue is resolved.

Our chiropractors correct the underlying cause of joint dysfunction so that the body can restore normal ranges of motion in the region that allows for the compensatory soft tissue reactions to heal. It is in this manner that chiropractors are best suited to deal with joint pain and dysfunction.
